Riverbend Refuge, is a project on the banks of the Avon Ōtākaro River where The Green Lab, Avon Ōtākaro Network, and Working Waters Trust have co-created. In 2018, The Green Lab and Avon-Ōtākaro Network started working on the project in response to the unprecedented opportunity to restore native riparian habitat throughout the ‘Green Spine’. Since, creative seating has been installed, and poetry by Kaumatua Teoti Jardine has been inscribed onto tree rounds forming a pathway through establishing riparian plants. Working Waters Trust in collaboration with Enviro Schools Canterbury contributed eight Tuna (eel) artworks to the site as part of their Tuna Taone project.
