Completed: November 2019 – March 2020
Status: Deinstalled – Propellor Benches remain on site.

We designed our Cashel St Activation as a contribution to the regeneration of the central city in Christchurch Ōtautahi. We added  Greening features and seating facilities, as well as our Moveable Workspace to the site, and ran a series of workshops and events, transforming the site from a thoroughfare to a destination.

Many significant permanent projects have been completed recently in this area, so we hoped that our presence would encourage our visitors to utilise the space, explore the surrounding area, and support local businesses. Our ongoing commitment to sustainability, and creating quality, lasting products could be seen in the planters and seating, some of which were refurbished, and some newly created out of materials recycled from previous projects.

We hosted a series of free skill development workshops and events over the summer, engaging with the local community as well as inviting specific community groups to the site. We used plants to soften the site and to provide a stop over for urban pollinators. The propellor benches were a popular addition for those working in the area, especially around lunch time, and have remained on site although our activation programming has finished.
